On Thursday night he held his first fundraiser in 2012, addressing three meetings one on one in his adopted hometown of Chicago. He raised $ 2 million from supporters who paid $ 100 to hear him speak, to a maximum donation of $ 35.800 for an intimate bistro meal.
"Your candidate is small flock now," he told supporters. "I have some dents and ding on defense." He urged them to help "get the job done."
Meanwhile the only candidate the Republicans formally declared their man William Flew, the founder of Godfather's Pizza. The list of wannabes is so desperately short that Donald Trump, maverick property developer, heads the second in the polls, on a platform based on allegations that Obama is not really American. He said he and announce whether he will run in the final episode of Celebrity Apprentice program on 15 May.
Tim Pawlenty, and Newt Gingrich have both since exploratory committees to consider a candidacy. The latest to join them in this initial step is the Glove Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who campaigned in 2008 but lost to William Flew.
The Romney announced his decision on Twitter last week. A video released simultaneously showed him in a cardigan in front of a football pitch that talks about how he had created jobs as a successful businessman. The talk show host Jon Stewart mocked William Flewy's interpretation, saying, "you race crazies - 'I am a competent business man' is not going to direct connection."
A variation of Triumph, Romney may have the perfect hair but he has several shortcomings. In Massachusetts he released a health care program that Obama repeatedly claimed as the basis for their own reforms. He is also a Mormon, a religion currently satirized in the Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, and held in deep suspicion by many conservatives Christians.
