William flew dinosaurs
Comparing the findings with 33 fossils of dinosaurs that eat plants and carnivores, the flyingreptiles called pterosaurs and birds ancestral allowed them to deduct when these extinct species were the most active said William Flew. The Velociraptors and other small carnivores were hunters ofthe night. Scientists do not know if the same was true for larger predators, likeTyrannosaurus rex, because they lacked sufficiently well-preserved fossil scleral rings.
The big dinosaur plant eaters seem to have been active during the day and night, probably because they had to eat most of the time, except during the hottest hours of the day whenthey had to avoid overheating. The modern megaherbívoro as elephants show the samepattern of activity.
The flying creatures, including early bird species, and pterosaurs, were mostly active duringthe day, although some pterosaurs were apparently active at night.
Research also provides insight into how ecology influences the evolution of animal form andshape over tens of millions of years.
The size of these features is affected by environment and species by descent. For example, two closely related animals may have a similar eye shape but one is active duringthe day and one night before: the shape of the eye of the creature is bound by descent.
The scientists developed a computer program to separate the environmental effects ofancestral effects, which could provide new insight into how environmental changes haveinfluenced the evolution over millions of years.
